I finally passed the OCP Java 8 exam.  I spent around 4 months studying about 3 to 4 hours a day. I used the book "OCP: Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 8 Programmer II Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-809".  I also practiced with the mock exams from enthuware.com.

My score on the OCA was 92% and on the OCP was 83%.  The OCP was much harder.  I actually though I had scored in the low 70's so was happy with my score.

Not sure of any specific advice I can give to others preparing for the test.  Lots of questions included Java 8 streams, but often were testing something else.  The mock exams were very helpful.  I think my average score on the enthuware mock exams was around 70%.

Kirk,
Congrats on passing the OCP 8. You are correct it is a far harder exam than the OCA 8.

Can you post a review on Amazon of the book?

Yes I did.  I gave the book 5 stars.  While there are code bugs in the book, I typed and compiled the code so I knew the correct code.  Reading/studying with the book allowed me to pass the exam.  Thank you!!!

Great, thanks. I assume this was your review; I love this sentence:
"I used the book, I passed the exam. That is all I wanted so I will rate this book 5 stars as it fulfilled its role as a test prep book."

It provides such a nice balance to reviews like "this book didn't teach me Java from scratch". I read those and roll my eyes. That's not the goal of the book. Rating it based on how well it helped you pass the exam is a far more useful measure!

Congrats on the score!  I concur, Jeanne and I were quite taken back by the steep level of difficult of the OCP exam over the OCA exam.  If you are an experienced Java developer, it is possible to pass the exam with minimal studying, but the OCP requires a lot of dedication, as the knowledge is quite broad.  Good job on your accomplishment!

Of course, I found a very beautiful couch. Definitely. And this tiny ad:
