Hi

How to enable ssl in tomcat server to enable https request. It needs to be done at IP  level(machine)  or tomcat server level?
SSl certificate need to be installed both at server and client ?
Which ssl certificate is freely available to enable https?

The primary SSL cert has to be installed on Tomcat in the SSL keystore database as described at the URL Tim Moores indicated. The client has a collection of SSL parent certs that must match up to the root of the Tomcat server's certificate chain if you want the TLS connection to be automatically approved.

You can get free certs from letsencrypt.org, but they have to be renewed every 90 days.
