Hi ranchers,
First of all sorry if I have posted this question on the wrong forum.
I own a website. I want to build a software for this. Software description is something like this :

The website is on wordpress. Its a simple blogging website. But I want to keep track of the visitor's activity, the only activity I want to keep track is  : suppose I am having a link in my website, which points to an e-commerce(small/not known) website. Now if a visitor of my website hits that link and goes to that website and complete a payment of their product. I want to keep record of that visitor.

Can I achieve this ? I yes then how ?
Any help would be heartily appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know what "my Java software" is, so I can't speak to that.

The usual approach to affiliate e-commerce tracking is that the link from your site to the e-commerce site would contain a tracking parameter (TP), which the target site would use for their reporting of all transactions and inbound links concerning your site. So you would need a contract with them that spells out the details.

I'm sure there is a WordPress plugin that adds TPs to outbound links and creates reports about their usage.

Hi Tim,
"my java software" is the software which I have described here. The software which will do all this task.

You would need a contract with the ecommerce people.  Whether that is directly or via a third party (eg some advertising agency that provides ads for that slot on your page).

That contract would result in the ecommerce site informing you of a sale, based on the tracking data.

You can't simply write code that can pry into their website.

You said the site was running on WordPress; why bring Java into it? You can track outbound links via Google Analytics: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-track-links-in-wordpress-using-google-analytics/

The latter.

How ecommerce site will inform me, means show me the records ?  what if they show me the wrong data? How can I be sure that the ecommerce site is showing me the correct data.

Ok Tim, I can track outbound links via Google Analytics, but can I keep track of  that visitor, like what he/she is doing on the outbound link(ecommerce).

You don't, not for sure. You have to have a certain degree of trust in your business partners, otherwise the venture is based on unsure grounds.

WordPress is written in PHP.

As Dave mentioned, you can't track external sites. Not unless you get that site to add your tracking stuff (maybe also Google Analytics) on all pages for visitors that come from your site.

It means exactly what it says: the e-commerce site would have to add your tracking stuff to their site (in addition to whatever tracking they use for their own purposes). If you aren't familiar with Google Analytics, this would be a good time to familiarize yourself with it, so you know what's involved in using it, and what it can do for you.
