By doing the type of testing that's best done by folks other than those who wrote the software, like exploratory testing and usability testing.

An innovative team can also have QA provide feedback on things like the quality of documentation, the completeness of unit tests, regression tests, integration tests, refactoring, and ease of maintenance and enhancement.
