A Jumpin JForum Day to y'all. That's right. Can you believe it has been
eight years since we went live with the JForum software here at the Ranch? You can read about
past years features here. This year we have two shiny new features.
Custom dashboards for the category and forum pages
For some time, we've had site personalizations. (Go to "My Profile" to view.) To celebrate JForum Day, we have some new personalizations that allows you to customize the site and more.
We've had a pull down on the home page for some time that let you choose between different dashboards. Now you can do that on the category and forum pages too! For example, there are three pre-configured dashboards of the forum page. Here's three for the
Java 8 Features forum:
Default view
With Bookmarks (replaces the hot topics columns with a larger column showing your bookmarked threads in the forum with the most recently updated ones on top)
With Bookmarks and Watches (replace the hot topics columns with small tiles for any bookmarks and watches you have in the forum
Like any of the dashboards? Good news! If you go to "my profile" and expand "Site Personalizations" you can set your default view to be any of them. You can even choose a different default dashboard on the home page, category and forum screens. For example, you might want the recent topics table dashboard for the home page and the bookmarks one for the category/forums pages.
It gets even better. You can combine any of the widgets we've coded for the columns and make your own dashboard. You can even set it to be your default. How cool is that? For more details, see
the dashboard/wiki documentation page.
