Hi All,

I am thinking to appear for Java Certification. I am planning to appear for 7 currently. I have compared the exam objectives of 7 and 8 and there are only slight differences between the two.
I am looking forward to know, if i give the oracle certified java associate of 7. can i appear for Oracle Certified Java Programmer 8?

Secondly, i see in the oracle site, that Java 8 is only available in Japan. Can anyone please confirm at the earliest? Thanks.

You can take OCP8 exam after (or even before) taking OCA7.
The problem is this won't get you OCP8 certified.
You need to do either OCA7 + OCP7 or OCA8 + OCP8.

Java 8 certification is available outside of Japan. link

As correctly stated above, you cannot combine Programmer I (OCA) and Programmer II (OCP) exams from different versions of Java.

If for some reason you prefer to follow Java SE 7 path (OCA + OCP), then you can get OCP Java 8 with 1 Upgrade exam (1Z0-810).

Good luck,
MZ

No! You can't combine different version certifications.

This path requires passing two OCP certification exams, so that's definitely the toughest path possible. But if you like a challenge (and have the money to purchase 3 certification exams), you should go for it If you don't have taken any certification exam yet, the most obvious, simplest, cheapest path is OCA8 + OCP8.

I don't know if "slight" is the word I'd use. See the differences. There are large added and removed topics.

That is not true. It's confusing on Oracle's site. They mean the exam has a different name in Japan.

In any case, you should take the OCP 7 since you already have the OCA 7.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for the replies. I would be going with OCP7 currently and then going with OCP8 later.

The reason, i have heard the feedback from friends, the 8 version is not stabler. I am not sure, it can just be a rumour. Thanks.

I'm not sure what the would mean. The objectives have been pretty stable.

Hi Everyone,

After bit of research, i have decided to go with version 8. I was receiving the reviews from different people, that the exam was not stabler in this version. Though after going through different feedback, better to invest in 8 rather then 7.
Thanks guys.
