Hi,

I was able to compile and install Tomcat native libraries by following the two links given below.

1) http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fsheroz.com%2Fpages%2Fblog%2Finstalling-apache-tomcat-native-linux-ubuntu-1204.html

2) https://tomcat.apache.org/native-doc/

But how do I verify all the necessary libraries are loading? The documentation says to add " LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$CATALINA_HOME/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH " to $CATALINA_HOME/bin/setenv.sh
but in my Tomcat 8 folder it doesn't exists

By referring the link "http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fblogoless.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fhow-to-install-apache-tomcat-native.html" I add the export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/local/apr/lib" statement to the beginning of the catalina.sh file. Still I don't see output like

Feb 8, 2015 12:27:41 PM org.apache.catalina.core.AprLifecycleListener init
INFO: Loaded APR based Apache Tomcat Native library 1.x.y.
Feb 8, 2015 12:27:41 PM org.apache.catalina.core.AprLifecycleListener init
INFO: APR capabilities: IPv6 [true], sendfile [true], accept filters [false], random [true].
Feb 8, 2015 12:27:41 PM org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11AprProtocol init
INFO: Initializing Coyote HTTP/1.1 on http-8080

on my catalina.out file when the Tomcat server is loaded.

What should I do?

The setenv.sh file does not come with Tomcat. You have to create one if you need it. It's just an ordinary text file, although for best results you should chmod it to the "+x" attribute for the Tomcat userid.

Thanks Tim, for your valuable information.

Do I need to add setenv.sh for Tomcat 8 also?

Tomcat 8, Tomcat 9, Tomcat 3. Doesn't matter. As long as there's a catalina.sh, expect it to enhance itself by looking for and using setenv.sh, if it finds one. Same with setenv.bat on Windows systems.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
