I created a simple "SparkJava" web service today using Maven.

When I created the project, I used the simple Maven setup from Intellij.

Yet, although that simple Maven setup choice worked fine to run the service within Intelij, it didn't include the required Maven piece to do the executable jar.

My question, then, is whether there is a standard Maven type project in Intellij that will let me get an executable jar using the package goal.

I ended up posting questions and then manually adding a <plugin> section to the pom.xml.

Look forward to any suggestions.

I think your best bet is to find or create a Maven archetype like this and use that to build your project.

Thanks very much. It doesn't seem that Intellij 2016 has this basic archetype unless it's assumed in one of the others, like web app.

With SpringBoot, all it takes is the @SpringBootApplication and you're good.

Thanks again.
