Recently, I needed to approach OData protocol for retrieving some data via REST API. Is there anyone else here using it (or that has used it ) ? I'd like to share some impressions about it...
My feeling is that whoever invented OData protocol, felt if "standard" REST was missing something. Indeed OData gives you a good standardization about exposing data and it's quite powerful with its $select, $filter, and so on options. Looks like they wanted to build a "better REST style". Not sure if nowadays OData may be still considered better than "standard REST approach"... what do you think about ?
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
