Hi,

I have a problem setting DISPLAY environment variable.

In my local environment (Red Hat Linux + Weblogic 8.1 SP2), I use only one server (admin server with no managed servers). In my startWeblogic.sh script, I add a line to set an environment property when the server starts.

This is required as we are using a charting API and we cannot run in headless mode (chart API does not support it). So we have decided to use Xvfb and export the DISPLAY.
Everything works fine in this environment.

However, in our development environment, our application is deployed on managed servers which are started and stopped using the administration console. Hence I assume they are using the Node Manager to start and stop the managed servers.
Where do I place the "export DISPLAY=:1" in this environment?

I have tried placing it in the startManagedWeblogic.sh (in the domain) file as well as the common/bin/setCommEnv.sh file. But the charts still do not work? I am not sure which script is used to start up the managed servers. I have even tried to place the line in the startWLS.sh and setWLSEnv.sh scripts present in the nodemanager location.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading BEA documentation and trying out stuff for the last week. But nothing has been successful. I have currently reached a dead end, not knowing what to try next.

Forgot to add one more thing. is your development env the same ( i.e Linux ). Is the export DISPLAY command working from the command prompt in dev env. You may have to change the DISPALY properties (where you want to display) before you can say export. (e.g. DISPLAY=[your host name or IP address]:0.0;export DISPLAY)

Are you using the remote start (configured node managers) for managed servers (starting from the console) or starting the managed servers from unix/linux terminal. Your managed server script should be fine

Sorry for the incomplete information provided.

is your development env the same ( i.e Linux )

- Linux (same version) is used both in the development environment and my local environment.

Is the export DISPLAY command working from the command prompt in dev env.

- Yes, from the command prompt, I am able to set the DISPLAY property, even using a single statement like "export DISPLAY=:1". If I type "echo $DISPLAY" after the export I see the value.

Are you using the remote start (configured node managers) for managed servers (starting from the console) or starting the managed servers from unix/linux terminal.

- We are starting and stopping the managed servers using the admin console, so I guess we are using Node Managers.

Your managed server script should be fine

Which script gets called when starting the managed servers? See the list of scripts I have already tried above.

Thanks in advance,
