When you say "ftps", are you talking about "doing multiple files via ftp", or are you talking about "ftp secure and/or ftp-ssl"?

are you trying to write your own ftp client and/or server, or do you just want to know how to do it?

Hi what i am doing is creating an application to sell books currently i use a barcode scanner and mysql which in turn puts the data pertaining to the book in a file, so just one file now i then go to the sites where i sell the books and upload the file job done, but i thought i could remove this unnecessary step if i use ftp now one of the sites will be fine with ftp where as the other requires ftps  the subject of ftp/s is new to me and i thought i would read up about first but having tried to do so i have been side tracked by firms that are atempting to get me to join there service at a cost rather than teaching me anything about the subject

just seems to me that i need some help in finding a good tutorial

Check out Apache Commons Net. It has an FTPSClient class that can help you do most of the stuff you want.
