Please supply more details, e.g. operating system, default look‑and‑feel. Also go through your editor details. Do you have a highlight current line option turned on? What colour is the highlighting?

I think this discussion would fit better in our IDEs forum.

That's most likely something you can fix in your IDE Preferences settings. Open the Preferences dialog and type in "text editor" in the filter text box. Check and adjust the "Highlight current line" and "Current line highlight" settings to your liking.

Since you figured out how to change the current line highlight settings, I'm going to assume you're a big boy and can figure out how to experiment with other settings that might be causing that.

You might not have noticed this in the last screenshot that you posted but the word that's kind of blotted out in both places is "tester". Eclipse has an editor feature that highlights occurrences of the same name to make it easy to find where it's being used in your code. There are a few different places that have color settings. You might also look under General - Appearance - Colors and Fonts. Use the Preferences filter text box to narrow down your search.

You could also just try resetting your color scheme. Again, use the Preferences filter text box to make it easier to find that tab.

I would recommend you don't turn off those highlight options; simply change the colour to something less obtrusive. What you are showing in the last picture might be the rename in file option with ctrl‑2.

i dint think about this "mark occurrences" setting, hence the reason i've noticed a highlight when there is multiple variable names are the same and the highlights appear all over the screen. Changed the color of the highlight but only one highligh takes on the specified color. the rest stay black. thanks for pointing me in the right direction, i'll keep messing with the settings.
