Time consuming questions on OCP Java SE 8
(1 like)
Hello dear Ranchers,

The information on this topic is widespread among the experiences of people, who took the exam. So I thought, maybe it would be helpful to have the information in one place.

What questions were, in your opinion, the most time consuming questions?

For example, on OCA exam I have skipped all the questions, containing loops, to manage them in the next review phase. Not all of them were tough and not all of them were actually about a loop. But as I saw a loop, I just skipped it.

So the question is rather not about "how exactly each question were defined", but about "what topic it was and how to determine this topic from the first look". Some keywords or constructs maybe?

Thanks in advance!

I find threading questions to take longer to solve because they often feature a large amount of code. So maybe amount of code or Thread/Concurrent would be keywords to look for?

I personally didn't skip any question unless I was clueless what it was and I was not able to solve it within 2 mins max. The benefit of solving all questions in first pass is that on the next pass, you forget why you selected the answer. You take a fresh look at the question and sometimes you find that the first time you selected the wrong answer. It happens a lot with me that I miss something on the first pass which I catch while reviewing. So if I'm solving it on the second pass I don't get another chance to review it which I try to avoid...

Ankit: Same here but I can understand why someone might want to. One thing I do is a create a "fact" list. If there is a question that I'm not sure of a fact for on a cert, I write it down in hopes a later question will answer it.

For OCP exam i skipped the questions on Threads and reviewed them later. Time was not a problem i was left with 25mins . So dont worry.

I also think that questions about Thread/Concurrency are the longer in time to process so I did them at review phase. I also left out the NIO questions.
After that, I could complete all other questions in 80 minutos or so. Just focus on the ones that are about lambdas or streams that's my advice.

Just like many others I skipped the thread/concurrency "code snippet" questions (the ones with "text only" are mostly pretty easy to answer). Also questions where I was a bit clueless or looked very complex, I have skipped until the second round.

Disclaimer: Not really about OCPJP8 (since I didn't take this one yet), but based on my experiences on SCJP 1.4, 5.0 and 6. You find links to a detailed description of my experiences in my signature.
