Greeting to everyone at JavaRanch! Big time Java rookie here, so I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions and making *many* mistakes along the way.

Looking forward to the adventure.

Welcome to the Ranch Dan! We hope you enjoy your stay.

Trying stuff out, asking questions, making mistakes, asking more questions is a good way to learn.

Thanks very much Tim and Campbell. Appreciate the welcome.

Have no fear, I'm sure I'll be asking MANY Java questions over the next few months. I'm pretty much starting out from ground zero but I was able to briefly borrow a colleague's copy of the OCA Java SE Programmer I certification book by Jeanne and Scott, just so I know what lies ahead. The JavaRanch looks like a great place to learn from what little I've seen of it.

I'm heading off to work on a few "Hello World" apps to get the basics, then go from there.

Thanks.

Dan

I am not convinced that a certification guide is the best sort of book for beginners.

Welcome Daniel!

It's not, but he said to see what lies ahead, not to start learning Java. In fact, the first chapter of our book starts out with a warning that our book should not be the first Java book you read.
