HI Again!
I passed OCA Java SE 7 with 65%. I am happy with this score.
Important is that I am passed.

I am aware that I had many mistakes but this is my first certification.

The book of Bert Bates and Katty Sierra used many words that are unused by a non native English.

I passed it on 7st March, 2017. I started preparing for it from the last year.

I never worked with Java, but I worked ago 7 years with C#.

Zillions of thanks for support of Code Ranch, without you I haven’t pass my exam.

Here is what I did for my preparation.

BOOKS

I read the OCA book by OCA/OCP Java® SE 7
Programmer I & II
Study Guide - Bert Bates and Katty Sierra was really awesome!!

  • Mock Exams by Enthuware
    Java Basics by Oracle
many other tests looking fro Google.

  • Final test last day was 59%.

    Hi, Dana!

Congratulations! Nice shot, especially for someone, who never worked with Java. You did it from the first try!
I can remember my first Oracle certification. I have worked with ADF for some years and went without any preparation to Oracle ADF exam. So my first try I have failed

Do you plan to do the OCP too?

It is normal to fail because you didn't preparation.

I want to get OCP Java 7 but I will see what is happened in the future.

At work we didn't hit by many problems as presented in Java exam.

I look at the chapters for OCP exam but I am fear about Threads.

That is was interesting is the chapter about Design patterns which is new comparative to Java 6.

There are many information and I don't know how to organise info in my brain.

Yes, there is much to learn there.

I'm preparing for the OCP Java 8 and I have to say, that threads is not my biggest problem. Streams, method references... over 700 pages and 10 chapters of OCP Guide... It takes much time to understand. And much memory to remember
But I've started... so I have to make it to the end.

You should look, if it really worth the time investment for you.

    hi Dana,

congratulations! I can imagine that it was a struggle, but as you write you passed and that is all that matters. With you and Viktor going for the PJP as well, I am looking forward to the questions we come up with. Interesting times...

Did you have 10 chapters with Streams for OCP exam?

I have one chapter about I/O and NIO in my book for OCP 7.

You must find a method to learn not to memorise.

I am tempted to memorise many things and this thing didn't help me.

There are major differences between Java 7 and Java 8 regarding Streams?

    Succes Viktor.

    No, 10 chapters in total.
Streams and method references, I think, are something, typical for OCP 8 only.

Thank you Roel for your patience and your detailed explanation.

In our days the patience is a rare thing.
