The HttpSession class has:

setMaxInactiveInterval(int interval)
Specifies the time, in seconds, between client requests before the servlet container will invalidate this session.

Is there anyway to not have the Listener ignore certain requests.

I have a request that is being made based on a timer to refresh a header message. I would like the Listener to ignore this request in regards to invalidating the session due to lack of client requests.

Any request will reset the session expiry timer.

If you want other behavior you'll need to control security timeouts yourself orthogonally to the session timeout.
