Welcome to the Ranch!

Let's level set a little bit more. How much Java do you know? Do you know how to create a web app? Do you know how to read data from a spreadsheet? Do you know how to eat an elephant? (Answer: One bite at a time)

If that last question seemed odd, it's meant to be an analogy. Don't try to tackle a big problem all at once. Break it down into smaller, more manageable chunks. That way, you don't bite off more than you can chew and you won't end up in the hospital with indigestion or worse.

Tell us what you have tried so far.

What you are describing is a non-trivial program. Again, tell us how much exactly you know about Java. If you know nothing at all then I think you need to have a reality check and tackle a problem that's more n line with your skill level. This is not something you should try to do if you're still very new to Java.

If you're expecting people to give you code that does what you need, we don't do that around here. We're happy to give you tips and hints but you have to do your own work.

There's a library called Apache POI that will allow you to read Microsoft Excel files, but it's not a trivial task.  How much experience do you have in Java?

There isn't just some code for this, it's the entire way you code your program.  Here is some examples of how you would use POI.  If this code is confusing to you, you probably should work on becoming a more experienced Java programmer first.

kavitha vemula: it's okay to cross post your question, just be upfront about it.  Otherwise we might waste our time on a question that's already been answered.
