I realize I am beating this issue to death but would really need some more help please.

I do not understand why this: $('.msgDisp').load("/QMSWebApp/MessagingControllerServlet",

I guess the question is in what circumstances is this expression evaluated to true?

You have set this value to true when you visit a jsp page of some sort.
What sets it to false and/or removes it?

The obvious answer is "It is removed on session expiry"
The problem is that you probably still do HAVE a session, because you have been "pinging" the server every minute or so.

The issue I was having was my jQuery code was doing a post instead on a load.

I came up with some conditional code that to this into consideration and it is working as expected now.

Thanks for all the help.
