Async IO operation failed error

I have an application that uses Javascript and Flex for the front-end, Java for the mid-tier, and PL/SQL for the backend. From the Javascript code, I'm sending a jQuery post request to the mid-tier's Java servlet. The mid-tier is supposed to call a PL/SQL stored procedure. As soon as the jQuery post request is sent to the mid-tier, the Web browser closes and the mid-tier logs an error saying, "Exception created : java.io.IOException: Async IO operation failed (3), reason: RC: 55  The specified network resource or device is no longer available." What can I do about this? How can I change the mid-tier so that it doesn't attempt to send a response back to the front-end?

By the way, the Web browser is supposed to close as soon as the jQuery post request is sent.
