Yes, u are right nobody knows! Every vendor says he is the best!
Whom to believe?
Sometimes some 3rd party people do a study and tell us which is the best app server. Try Reader's Choice awards or some other site.

My favourite is Weblogic 8.1, as I am working with it at the moment.
I also like JBoss which is free and open source.

As for as the market share is concerned, I guess both BEA Weblogic and IBM have a big share.
