Welcome to the Ranch!

Why would you want to limit yourself to one variable? Can you explain that part a little more because it doesn't make sense to me. Any non-trivial program will probably require the use of more than just one variable. Variables are not something you want to skimp on in a program. Each idea that is involved in your program should be represented separately from others so it makes no sense to say "I want to create a calculator with only one variable."  Please explain that some more so we can understand what your real goal is.

Hello, and thanks for your answer.
This is to calculate the price of an item. The lenght really is the only thing that matters and varies.
I'm guessing I'll have someone more experienced do it for me

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
