Last semester I took an OOP course and realized a lot of the topics covered in class were objectives on the OCA exam so I bought the Certification Kit with the idea that I would take the OCP after the OCA.  I have never worked as a programmer so almost everything covered for the OCP was new to me.  My hope is that the certification will help distinguish me from other new graduates.

To prepare I used Jeanne and Scott's OCP book and the OCA/OCP Practice Test book.  For each objective I read the chapter, did the questions in the Practice Test book, and then did the questions in the OCP book.  I felt like doing the Practice Test book questions ensured I did not miss key points from the chapter before doing the harder questions in the OCP book.  Very excited to get started building some applications that I set aside while I was learning.

I spent most of this past week studying and sent the picture below to friends and family that were inquiring why I disappeared.

Matt,
Congrats! Great image.

Can you do me a favor and write a review on Amazon for the practice test book? It's a pretty new book and only has 3 reviews so far. And one of them is a guy who had problems with his Kindle. So he is skewing the rating

Posted a review that should show up soon.  Silly that Amazon doesn't separate kindle ratings from the overall ratings.  Typically when I see a well reviewed technical book, if they have a lot of bad ratings the majority are complaining about formatting on their kindle.  Content and presentation are both important for a rating but if your platform is causing presentation issues then it shouldn't count against the content creators

Matt,
I see it, thanks. I agree that separating Kindle reviews would be nice - but that wouldn't benefit Amazon. It would discourage people from buying Kindle books with conversion/rendering issues .

The negative reviews for Kindle formatting aren't a big deal once a book is out a while. We have 49 reviews on our OCP book and over 100 on our OCA book. So a couple of "bad" Kindle specific reviews don't drag down the average. This practice exams book has only been out a few months so less time for reviews!
