little bit doubt about the too many methods??

i am little bit concerned about the too many class and too many methods  ,my doubt is that we have to learn and practice the all methods of the one class or will it be sufficient to read only the given methods from the sybex book or any other reference book  like an array list we have given only the selected methods but there other methods as well same  on date time formatter  too many methods  has been given like i learn only the oflocalized and parse from the reference book but in oracle docs there are others methods are also like parsebest ,temporalquery and etc are given  is  these all has to be practiced as well or will it be sufficient to understand from the reference book methods ???
