Sometimes you look at a one star review and wonder what the reviewer is thinking. I hear about one at Book Expo. This is from Happy Feet on Amazon.

Any other funny ones?

It's even better when their review reads something like:-

Delivered to wrong address

or

Delivered late

or

Arrived damaged

It's unfortunate when the products themselves get a poor star rating due to some Amazon logistics problems.

I once gave a one star rating for a DVD that I bought at Amazon. I will *not* mention the name of the movie, because it is not important.

The DVD didn't work. I returned it for a replacement. The replacement DVD didn't work. So, I finally returned it for a refund... and mentioning why.

I actually got hate replies to my review. How dare I gave a one star rating to their favorite movie? Huh? When did Amazon reviews become a rating system for the movie? ... and doesn't Amazon own IMDB? so, even Amazon don't think that they are the same thing.

[EDIT] In reviewing my Amazon review, it looks like it was a Blu-Ray disk, and not a DVD disk.  I guess this was when Blu-Ray was still new, and they had production issues.

You have two potential reasons for a 1* review. Both refer to the quality of the product. In one case it is a crappy movie. Maybe somebody deserves a −1* review for liking that movie
In the other case it is a good movie on a disc which won't play. Both would make the disc into a poor quality product, and both deserve a poor review.

It is a bit like buying a book which you can't read because the writing is so tedious. Or a book which you can't read because some of the pages are missing.

I once gave a 1* review to a watch billed as a chronometer because the stopwatch was on one of the little hands. Somebody said I shou‍ld read the little dial across to the tachymeter scale on the whole face. I got my money back, anyway.

Well, if you must know, the name of the movie was Dredd. This movie, IMHO, was one of my favorite movies of that year -- which is why I wanted to purchase it, and even wanted to exchange it when it didn't work.

Unfortunately, one person also loved the movie, and didn't felt that I should've given one star to it, even when it is on a store's site, for the disk that I purchased from said store.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
