I loved "Java 8 for the Really Impatient". I noticed that "Scala for the Impatient" is merely for the impatient rather than the *really* impatient.

Seriously though, is there a difference in style signified by the lack of "really" or just a different name?

maybe the "really" is reserved for the 2nd version of the book?

CH is trying to use different terms for the different books, so they won't all appear really similar.

Here is the decoder ring:

"Impatient" = for programmers familiar with another programming language
"Really Impatient" = for programmers familiar with the prior version of the same programming language

The "Java 8 for the Really Impatient" was a one-off for Java 8, which had so many changes that I put together a book with just the changes, for readers that are familiar with Java 7.

There won't be a "Java 9 for the Really Impatient" because it would only be 30 pages thick :-)

And I don't think there will be a "Scala 3 for the Really Impatient" either, but who knows...we'll have to see what Scala 3 will be like.

Cheers,

Cay

Cay,
Thanks for the decoder ring; that makes sense.

Java 9 is more than 30 pages if you cover Jigsaw. If they ever manage to release it of course .

Jigsaw is not all that complex, really. As we speak, I am finalizing the Jigsaw chapter for "Core Java for the Impatient", and it's under 30 pages :-) I realize there are entire books on Jigsaw, but they aren't exactly concise.

Cheers,

Cay
