I noticed that the Book Promotions rules state that you must be have a US mailing address? What about Canada? I live in Canada and have all of my life. I know that I wouldn't automatically win in the promotion(s), but I know that there is no point in trying to win if you exclude Canada as a region that can participate.

I think I would like to try to take part in the latest promotion where you could win a copy of Android Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide. This contest started July 25, 2017 and end July 28, 2017.

I have also noticed that the "Passed Java Certification" thread doesn't have too many Canadian residents. Any thoughts on why that might be?

Thanks for your time and attention to this matter,
Pete

@Campbell Ritchie,

I did get a response to this question on a different thread, which listed the winners. I certainly did expect to win, and I wasn't planning on asking or posting any questions to the thread that was hosting this promotion either.

Sorry about posting to this thread, I did not know that it was closed and I did not try to do anything to break any rules. Did you want to know what I running to see if something which I'm running allowed me to post?

I'm not going to say 100% sure how I got to post the initial topic, as I do not recall exactly.
    However if you go to
    https://coderanch.com/f/10/Ranch-Office
you should notice that there is a button near the top right hand labeled "New Topic", which is right of the Change View button.
I think that I pressed New Topic button and then created my post.
I can try this again if you want me to, and if you want me to what should I post?

But surely if you push the new topic button in Ranch Office you will get a new thread in Ranch Office? You managed to find a closed forum. You don't have a browser history do you? The time you posted is 25/07/2017 12:35:41 which is 7 hours after GMT/UTC (Pacific Time), I think.

Yes I do have browser history, I only keep about seven days of browser history. In the past I've only needed browser history of about a day or two. If I find a URL that I think I'll need in the future I make note of it (bookmark or other). I hadn't suspected that I'd need to make note of how I went about posting a question/comment to this site in the future as the actions to do that seem fairly standard.

Where does it say that? The only mention of the United States in the rules is "To receive a book, it must be legal under US law to ship books to your country from the United States. ". That excludes countries like North Korea. It's certainly legal to send things so Canada.

No, you wouldn't. But the original forum is supposed to be visible only on 1st April. It is a mystery to me how so many people find it.

In view of your helpfulness in this question, have a cow

    Yes @Jeanne Boyarsky,

I'm sure that I miss read/interpreted the rules, which I apologize for. This is actually one of my many faults. Many times I need to read things more then once to get a true understanding of what is being stated.

Hey, I figured out how exactly I posted to the section what should be off limits.

    If you navigate to
    https://coderanch.com/forums/posts/insertOnCategory/1
    You can post to
"Questions with no answers and all URGENT posts"
I'm told that should not be allowed.

    How did I get there?
    Go to
    https://coderanch.com/c/java

Click the "New Topic" button on the top right corner

@Campbell Ritchie wanted to know about this and hopefully they now do.

Thank you for the information about the URGENT forum; I shall discuss it with the other mods.

Sorry for delay in replying: I have been away.

That's okay @Campbell Ritchie. I know that this is a free resource and that you and others are volunteering your time to help maintain it and keep it good for all who use it.

So thanks to you and all of the other mods on this site for making it great for everyone.
