Can we refer a jar present in one ear from another ear but deployed on the same server instance? For Example, we have 2 ear files: ear1, and ear2. There are some jars: jar1, jar2, jar3 in ear1; can we refer these jars from ear2? If yes, then how this can be achieved?

I thought the whole point of EARs is that they are self contained?

i agree Dave. But, in case if there is such a requirement, is it possible and how?

Did you ask why there is such a requirement? Why can't you just create an EAR that contains all of the modules that you need directly? If you only have access to the one EAR that contains the module that you need, then just unpack the EAR and add the required module to your new EAR.

I think JBoss was the last one that handled that (sharing stuff between EARs), but even they stopped several versions ago.

There may be a switch I suppose, but frankly I would go with Stephan's route.  Ask them why.  It doesn't really make much sense.
