Hi all,

I want to share with you my story to help you successfully pass the OCAJP. My preparations took 6 weeks.
Previously I had little experience with Java. First I started with reading of "Head First Java" by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. But only chapters which covers OCA topics. This is very good book for beginners. And if you have no experience with Java, I suggest you to start with this book and only then go to Boyarsky/Selikoff or Gupta book.
The next step I choose to read "Java OCA 8 Programmer I Study Guide" by J.Boyarsky and S.Selikoff. I read it once and then before 8 days of my scheduled exam started with Enthuware tests. Each day i took one test and then reviewed all questions including right answered.

My Enthuware results:
1. 54%
2. 70%
3. 61%
4. 77%
5. 67%
6. 71%
7. 76%
Last day test. 80%

As you can see first results were not really good. Enthuware allows you to see through Progress Report which topics you are good at or bad. I reread the topics in the book which I was bad at.
I personally think that the real exam was a little bit easier than Enthuware tests. Also when you're taking Enthuware tests try to sit for 2,5 hours continuously like in the real exam. It will help you a lot with time management in real exam. I had 7 minutes left when I answered last question in real exam.
Enthuware software was the key to success. Big thanks to Paul and to this great forum with all your success stories which gave me confidence and without which i wouldn't know about existence of Enthuware software. And very big thanks for great book to Jeanne and Skott.

Congratulations Alex!
I have no experience in Java and I'm following the book path you suggested, targeting OCAJP 1Z0-808.
Head First Java is very intersting and I'm going to cover it all. Anyway can you tell me which topics did do for the exam?

Chapters in "Head First" which you need for OCAJP:
from Chapter 1 till Chapter 11 (Exception Handling: Risky Behavior).

Welcome to CodeRanch Alex and wow, great job on that test. Congratulations, you should be proud of your score.

Now you take a few moments and relax.

If you are planning on undertaking the OCP exam next then I suggest that you look at https://coderanch.com/wiki/659976/Ocpjp-Wall-Fame to see how others have prepared and what resources they used..
This could save you time, effort and frustration.
