Hello

I have an issue.

While opening an Excel document using Internet Explorer 11, and clicking on Open (Out of Open/ Save/Save As), I am getting blank page. The document is not opening in Read only mode.

The issue is coming if I use Excel 2016 version in my system.

The document is opening perfectly fine when I used MS Office 2010 or 2013. It is working fine in Other browsers. Only issue is with Internet Explorer 11 Open Functionality and Excel 2016.

My application is developed using JAVA Servlets. It just fetches the file(Here Excel file) from Archive system and gets downloaded.

Can anyone clarify is this because of my application and do I have to change anything specific to code to open in IE11. Or the issue is somewhere else and where ?

I'm still running into this with 2016. If I open Excel (or Word for that matter) and do an Open File then the document gets loaded properly. If I open Windows Explorer (File Explorer?) and go to where the document is stored and double click on an Excel document the Excel opens up but opens to a blank document.

I've poked around on this issue for an hour and a half with Microsoft support. We ended up editing several Registry entries.
was
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE" /dde
changed to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE" "%1"

This worked but only for a while until the next W10 update came in, then I had to reedit to put it back in. Also, Excel had like 4 places that that change had to be made.
.../Excel.Sheet.8/shell/Open/command
.../Excel.Sheet.12/shell/Open/command
(and others?)

Something's wrong with their DDE (dynamic data exchange).

Let me know if this fixes your problem.

Hello

You mean to say the issue is with Microsoft Excel 2016 and we have to edit some Registry key to fix this. And there is nothing I have to do in my application code to make it work.

Can you be a little bit accurate about what exactly I have to do to overcome this issue.

First step is to see if my description of the problem matches yours. Given that you have some Excel file stored  somewhere:
  • Can you first start up Excel and then use File>Open to display it. Does it  display?
  • Secondly, if you then close Excel and open up File Explorer to the folder where this file resides, if you double click on the file does it start up Excel? Does Excel display the file?

  • If the first way displays the file and the second one doesn't, then you may be experiencing what I found on my machine.
