Would you like to play a key role in the assurance of submarine systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Software and Information Assurance) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer (Software and Information Assurance), working as part of the Engineering Product Assurance Department (EPAD) across a number of submarine systems. You will be responsible for assurance activities on real time software produced by the supply chain; you will operate at a Corporate level with an impartial view across projects on matters relating to Software, Control & Indication (C&I) and Information Assurance across the whole boat. Ensuring that the design intent has been maintained, meets the stated contract requirements, is safe to operate and compliant with statutory legal and regulatory requirements.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Software and Information Assurance) will involve:
Providing Chief Engineer (Assurance and Safety) with technical assurance advice relevant to the Software, Control & Indication (C&I) and Information Assurance. Work closely with the Domain Assistant Chief Engineers to provide assurance of the Real Time Software, Control & Indication (C&I) and Information Assurance activities and systems across the lifecycle of all Maritime Submarines products and services.
Compile and review assurance evidence in support of qualification, legislative requirements and safety justifications through review, surveillance and audit of design, build and certification activities and outputs, as required by the Technical Assurance Programme
To liaise with both internal and external customers as required, giving assurance that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed
Review plans for surveillance and audit for all aspects of Submarine Software, Control & Indication (C&I) and Information Assurance activities and systems including through life capability and support
Articulate and present complex technical argument and evidence clearly, logically and simply
To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Demonstrable knowledge and work experience of Real Time Software, Control & Indication (C&I) and Information Assurance, applied to maritime platforms within comparable safety critical industries
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience within Software or Systems engineering or HND or closely related discipline
Desirable:
Experience of marine/ defence industry
Chartered engineer or working towards
Experience of programming different Computer languages and operating systems
Knowledgeable in multiple software development methodologies
Applied understanding of software configuration management

You must also be able to effectively challenge engineering and build data, allowing assurance issues to be collated and actioned.
