Page 262 of Certified Associate Java ®  SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide, second paragraph:

If we changed the access modified from private to protected in the parent class Whale,
would the code compile?

It seems modified should have been modifier with R instead of D in the end.

Yes It is an erratum not listed yet in the errata list. Thank you for reporting. To get more volunteers attention, please always mention author(s) or publication name along with the book name, would be easier for them to know which book you are referring to. Since I own this book ( OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide by Sybex ) I'm sure It's from that book so edited the title accordingly.
