The IBM WS Admin server doesn't appear in the control panel under services. I closed down my servers before I installed it, I did successfully install IBM HTTP server okay, tested it and it works. (installed separately like it suggested, from the setup.exe)
I tried reinstalling the IBM WS admin again, but still it isn't coming on. What could be wrong. I used the included CD 3.02, standard edition, and followed the instructions along from ibm install guide.

Mary,
What you need to do is login as the administrator of the local machine and reinstall. Or create a new account for the machine with administrative rights and reinstall the IBM Websphere. You need to log back as with either being administrator or the user with administrator rights.
If you do not have the administration rights for your machine the app server will not be there in your services panel.
If still you have problems do write it here.

Mary,
This is in regard to your e-mail of the problem not solved
Could you please post your questions and queries in javaranch so that we can keep the forum moving. A friend had a similar problem. We started out by
removing the IBM HTTP Server folder.
I then removed the WebSphere folder
I followed this up by rebooting the system
I then logged in as administrator.
Started installation of WebSphere
i punched in administrator and the password when required
Shut down the system after installation
started the system logging in as administrator.
checked out the services panel where i found the http server started
then started the appserver
Works!!!.

Rahul,
Thank you very much for your help. I did as you suggested. It didn't work. Some one who knows how to set up Visual Age is coming to install it. I will post what the problem was later in the week.
Thanks again,
Mary

Re-Installation of WAS is a problem. If u have installed HTTP server. You do not have to remove it. Just STOP it, so WAS can update conf file in order to HTTP+WAS combination to work. Also remove WAS database created in your database. (If u r using any DB otherwise with instantDB, no probs.) Never delete directories to remove, UNINSTALL.
Just my small contribution...

The problem was solved, I had install WAS properly, but when NT was set up the person put a space in workstation name, and WAS didn't like this, it took a very sharp person many hours to fix this.

What's that smell? I think this tiny ad may have stepped in something.
