I'm used to Ruby's map method on collections so I'll use that perspective when replying... Go supports first-class functions, including the ability to pass a function to another function. So it's trivial to implement Map and Filter functions that take a collection and a function you want run against each element of the collection. You can see examples of both (and many others) here.
