My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. Moderator, please move it to correct forum if it doesn't belong here. Thank you.
I am not using this forum to find a job, I am only searching for information on learning
Java and Websphere. I am a mainframe programmer (Cobol, CICS programmer, MVS, etc.) I was laid off and part of the severance is some money to use for education. I can't get the money, it will be given to a training company that I choose.
I want to take advantage of the money and I was told by some peers that Websphere and Java might help me get a job easier. The market is horrible right now. I'm in the NYC metro area.
I have been programming mainframes for 25 years. My PC programming experience is weak. I know HTML well. I can write small perl scripts. I know a little about php, MySQL. I created and maintain a couple of popular web sites.
My question is, how do I start? What courses should I take as a beginner? Does anyone know where these courses can be taken in the NYC metro area or within a reasonable distance? Thanks for any help.
