Compass readings at regular intervals

Hi,

I would like to get compass readings at every second rate and send them to the cloud. So basically, I would like to get orientation information ("N", "S" etc) once per second and send it. Method onSensorChanged()  is  constantly  updating  information on the screen, but how I could capture samples at regular rate?
