Quantum computing has a lot of potential.  It both needs a forum and not a forum. But on this website, we need a deterministic answer so here it is.

We will have a book promo in October to welcome this new forum into being.

So what can be done at amateur level with Quantum computing right now?
If I understood correctes, IBM has a platform where you can connect to they a Quantum computer?

I small one. They also have a simulated quantum experience so you can play more.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
