Where I work we have a self service app store that only installs Oracle Java JDK 8 Update 221. I'm a developer using it to write an application. Is this legal for commercial use? I was under the impression that all oracle jdks had license fees for commercial use. How can I verify that we are doing the right thing.

What do the terms and conditions (EULA) say? Have you looked at this thread, or this one, which appears relevant to Java8? They suggest you are still OK with Java8.

Thanks for the info. The link for Java Is Still Free explains it very well. I believe we are using the correct version but we should probably upgrade. Thanks!

Tangentially related point of note: I switched from Oracle's Java 8 to AdoptOpenJDK's Java 8 and everything just worked. I didn't have to change anything. Now that's compatibility.
