hello everyone,
My dad has asked me to make a ERP software for our family owned pharmacy business as a challenge in 2020.
My question is how should I do this, I have learned java and no taking online course on mySql.

The ERP i want to build is very simple, I want to enter Stock ,purchase entries and sale entries. There are not going to be many functionalities like they have in commercial ERPs
Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Ranch, Prachu!

I don't think that you want specifically an ERP system - and if you did, it would be a LOT of work to create one from scratch.

More likely you want a suite of business support services. Probably accounting, inventory management, reporting, and so forth.

ERP is sort of the umbrella over all of those, designed to help connect them together smoothly. It's not actually as important for small businesses, where everything's simple enough to keep track of directly, but once you scale up, having something that can manage sales campaigns, do inventory forecasting and other things of that nature can make work a lot easier.

Often these days, ERP is something you can obtain via SAAS (Software as a Service). For example, via NetSuite. A cloud-based ERP can be a real cost saver for a small business, since you don't have to have a large IT department to create and maintain software, databases, OS and security updates, make sure that data gets backed up, and so forth.

Welcome to the Ranch again.

Maybe you should consider a database to record all the stock, and a GUI program to display the stock on screen. There is a simple example of that sort of thing, but about coffee rather than drugs, in the Java™ Tutorials. That might be simpler to implement.

Thank you for your input guys.
So this is what I am doing now, I have found a super market billing project on internet and I m trying to understand that first. Its is an open source project.

How about I make changes in that existing billing software as per my requirements ?

https://code-projects.org/supermarket-billing-system-in-java-with-source-code/

This is the project I have found.

I have found a website providing free Java projects with source code for final year. Can I download these projects and make some changes to submit as my final year project?

They gave me pumpkin ice cream. It was not pumpkin pie ice cream. Wiping my tongue on this tiny ad:
