Hi JavaRanch,

here I will try to get advice on a difficult situation.

Currently I am working as a software consultant (in the same firm for eight years now).

It's a nice social environment, but they do not give me a chance to prove my development skills. And I have the feeling I am losing time the longer I am staying in this job.
It is true that I am not the fastest engineer, but hey, I started writing machine code at the age of fourteeen.

Plus I have a faible for modern languages like Kotlin.

My question: Is it woth it applying for even junior engineering jobs, now, at the age of 48?

Thanks a lot in advance
Reinhold

What does your current job involve, if not development?

currently I am working in the area of business process management. It involves groovy scripting, installation tasks and writing junit tests.
