I'm posting this on behalf of a collegue of mine.
When running the 2-phase-commit sample (mqdb2log) I get an error at the moment I begin the unit of work; so at the statement qMnr.begin(). I did the configuration at the queuemanager (swithfile jdbcdb2.dll etc.)
Configuration
Windows Nt
Mqeries 5.2
DB2 PE 8.1
Java 1.4.1.02

In our case we were using websphere as the syncpoint manager, but I think you need the exterprise edition of DB2 to participate in 2-phase commit.
