Basic Problem with Jasper Reports

Hi - I did not see a separate forum for Jasper Reports, so putting it here. I'm new to Jasper. I downloaded JasperSoft Studio Community and successfully made a report and compiled it. I downloaded (as far as I know) the jasper library itself in intelliJ with a maven dependency. The library classes import fine in my code. When i go to run the code, however, specifically:

I get the following exception on the second line:

net.sf.jasperreports.engine.JRException: Class not found when loading object from file: CasesByUser.jasper.

I'm not sure what to do with that? any help is much appreciated.
