Is the only reason to install Spark on Hadoop cluster (Yarn mode) that we want to read/write to HDFS

We can install Spark with or without hadoop. Is the only reason when we may install Spark on hadoop cluster (in YARN mode) that all it would enable us is to be able to read/write to HDFS?
