any suggestions on open source java projects to contribute for free to gain coding experience. I went to Github and found a bunch of them. But, when I look at the pull request/issues they were way over my head. I am a beginner/intermediate coder. And, at this point in my life, I know better than wasting time with issues that are over my head. Any ideas to share with me. Thanks.

Are you willing or interested in working on someone's private code?  I have several projects that need updating and improvements.  I'm sure there are others here that have the same type of tools that were written a while back and could use some improvements.  This wouldn't be anything formal, it would be just you working on someone else's crappy code.

I would be interested as well, I had to take a short break from programming as I had to focus on finishing my degree but now I'm back and full of energy again . I'm happy to work on anything small, even some simple tools and throwaway code.

Hi Adrian,
I'm not set up for working with other people on projects so this will all be adhoc.  I'll send you a PM with some specific details on how I can show you some of my projects and how we can continue.
Here are links to some of the public sites where I have posted my code:
https://sourceforge.net/u/normr/profile

Some Android projects:
https://github.com/NormR?tab=repositories

Take a look.

Norm

Marc,
Did you look at the code at the two links I posted?  Much of that code is quite old, but I still use it.
See if there is anything that looks interesting.
Also I will send you a PM about how we can continue if you are interested.

Hi Norm,
I looked at the repos. I just want to practice CORE java concepts, say, in a PR. So, anything that relates to those concepts is fair game. Of particularly interest  to me were Android-Web-Server and Maps4-Norm. Thanks, Marc

Sorry, I don't understand that statement.
What are repos?
What is CORE java concepts?
What is PR?

You are welcome to work on any of the Android apps.
The Maps4Norm has several minor bugs in it  (but I can't remember just what right now).
I use the SimpleWebServer all the time and don't know of any problems with it, but of course the GUI can always be improved.
