I understand that cows can be given by a member of code ranch to another member if the former is eligible for giving a cow. Typically, I have seen that more experienced members such as Bartenders, Authors give cow to new members if they feel his/her post is a useful one. I have two questions. 1) What is the right criteria on basis of which a member should decide to give cow to another member? 2) Is it taken as bad if a less experienced member like raunch hand etc gives cow to some very experienced member like bartenders, authors etc (which I think indicates that the former feels the post of latter was helpful for all)?
Thanks.

A very good post. More than a simple thumbs‑up;

2) . . . a less experienced member . . . gives cow to some very experienced member . . .Thanks.

That would be quite all right.

Thanks. So, it can be given for a Thread or a post. Is that correct?

And this 'good' means what I feel would be useful for all the readers and not just what I personally feel is useful. Is that correct?

Yes, but if somebody puts lots and lots of effort into answering your question, surely that merits a cow, too.

Technically it can only be given for a post. But the first post of a thread can represent the thread. So if you want to support the whole thread with a cow, the first post is a good place to do that.

You can if you wish say something explaining that the cow is for the whole thread rather than only one post.

The first post of the thread typically is a question. What follows typically are answers. So does that mean it is generally to be given for a good question which brought out good and useful information for all through answers and not typically given for good answers which brought out good and useful information for all?

I didn't say that. I was responding to the part about how to give cows for a good thread overall.

Definitely good topics and good answers both deserve cows.
