With Java 17 (LTS) being released in September this year, when can we expect the new OCP 17 exam?

Perhaps it is possible to roughly estimate it, due to previous experiences with how fast Oracle reacts with introducing new exams, after new Java LTS launched?

Basically, I am wondering if it's a good idea to attempt 1Z0-819 on July/August 2021, since Java 17 will have been released by 2 months later...

Nani,
It takes time for the exam to get updated for the next version. The Java 11 exam came out in March. (So 6 months after Java 11 came out.)  The first half of our Java 11 book came out in November 2019. (8 months after the exam came out.) [Originally the 819 was a two part exam]. And we were the first Java 11 cert book to market.

Granted the past is not a predictor of the future. But I would be surprised if either of these events were significantly faster. It's really hard to pass a cert exam without a study guide. So I definitely recommend taking the 819 this summer rather than trying to wait for the Java 17 cert.

Check out this article about topics that we expect to be included in the new OCP Java 17 certification exam.

Just to be clear, there is no news about the Java 17 exam yet and this article is just guesswork. With Java 11, Oracle merged two exams into one. Who knows, with Java 17, they might split it up again!

Well, it's released now, I have an OCP 11 voucher and I was looking to see if 17 exam is going to be any time soon, but apparently not, enthuware expects it mid-2022, so I guess I'll just prepare for my OCP 11.

Yes, Java SE 17 Developer Certification is officially launched.
I can see the same exam syllabus like what we seen earlier on Oracle page (during beta stage).
They key topics related to Java SE 17 are:
Sealed classes
Text blocks
Java Records
Pattern matching in if and switch statements

MyExamCloud offers 30+ mock exams for 1Z0-829 Java SE 17 Developer Certification.

The major changes to the objectives don't tell the whole story.  Oracle has made a number of changes to existing material that make the 1Z0-829 exam very different from the previous certification exams.  We did our best to capture these changes in our new book, but its a lot more than can be posted to a single thread.
