I cleared OCP 819 exam on Saturday with a score of 78%.
I have been a junior web developer for a year and a half and prior to that I was an accountant for almost 7 years. I've attended a few Java courses last year and in the last 4 months I have been studying from Scott Selikoff and Jeanne Boyarsky's books, their updates related to the exam and I have been in constant touch with this awesome source of information and inspiration that CodeRanch is.
A few mentions about the exam:
-I chose to attend the exam from home and it went smoothly;
-The questions were as diverse as you can find: from specific NIO.2 (how to initialize FileChannel), pass-by-value, operators precedence to extra-obvious final class inheritance (two big classes, the second extended the first that was in fact final);
-Some question were tough, complex and time consuming and I could have used some paper(there is a whiteboard available but I did not open it because I thought it would make me waste time);
-I have finished all questions with 50 sec remaining and I did not dare to get back to the questions I have marked because you have to click 2 different buttons in order for your exam to finish and be scored and I did not want to risk an invalid exam;
I do not think I would have passed the exam without the EnthuWare question bank. My average score on the enthuware mock exams were just 61% (getting 55% and also 75% depending on the questions I guess) but I managed to score 78% in the actual exam.
Many thanks again for all the support I have found here and good luck!
I'll be taking the exam also this week, having achieved the OCA 8 exam in the past (thanks to Enthuware also).
What would you say is the distribution of OCA/OCP topics in the exam?
I'm also preparing with the Enthuware exam (819 version) and I notice a lot of questions in those are about OCP related material. Is this also what I can expect in the real exam? I hope so, because I've been studying hard on that fulltime for two months now and I got it better in memory.
The questions I got on the exam did not struck me as being mostly OCA or OCP oriented. I was surprised to get some really easy ones from both OCA and OCP but those were definitely counterbalanced with some very hard ones from OCP. Take into consideration this is totally biased because I have found OCP much more difficult than OCA.
