Questions for Java Challengers' author Rafael del Nero:

Hi Rafael:

If you know the Java Puzzlers book, how does your book relate to it?

Why did you decide to self-publish rather than go with a traditional publisher?

Thanks,
Marco

Hello Marco, thanks for your question!

The Java Challengers book contains code challenges more connected to the high-level Java features such as polymorphism, inheritance, lambdas, streams, functional interfaces, and so on. The Java Puzzlers book is more focused on low-level concepts involving the JVM for example.

About self-publishing the book, this is a long story actually. I started the book with a very famous publisher but in the middle of the book development, they decided to not continue with my book. Therefore, the Java Challengers audience is the one who gets most of the benefits because since I am using Leanpub as a publisher, I can make this book a living book where I can include new Java Challenges with the latest Java versions. I also have more freedom now with my book, this wouldn't be so easy to negotiate with a publisher.

This means that, if you acquire the book now, you will get FREE updates from the book because I will be iterating and improving it.

Let me know if that answers your question. Cheers!

I

Hi Rafael, thanks for your answers.

As an educator, I think puzzles and challenges can be great learning aids,
I'll be sure to pick up your book.

Best,
Marco

I am glad to know that Marco! Feel free to give any feedback about the book if you want to! Cheers.
