I believe that they invite guests based on the likelihood that they will present a spectacle.
Personally, I find that actual life has enough of that that I don't need to watch TV for it. But then Reality TV is a cheap way to present entertainment without having to pay for serious creative talent.
Loudly announcing something is true and finding out you're wrong makes you feel foolish.
Finding out you're wrong and refusing to admit it makes you LOOK foolish.
