In the tearoom at Berrington Hall. No others spotted in the surrounding area.

Nice to see you're taking in all the important sights Paul while you're in England.

Is that a National Trust property? The bell‑box suggests it is.

Yes, it is. (We got National Trust Canada memberships which are much cheaper and are accepted by NT here.)

We have National Trust membership too, but over here in Northern Ireland there are really only 2 places with paid entry where we get to use it. Mount Stewart, and Castle Ward. Thankfully Mount Stewart is pretty close to us so we get our money's worth from going there alone.

I know somebody less than ½mile from here who was given National Trust for Scotland life membership as a 21st birthday present. That gains him entry and free parking in England and Wales, too.
I gave one of my daughters NT membership as a Christmas present two years ago. Even in free entry premises, it would have allowed her not to pay the parking charges. Because of lockdown she never used it

I have just realised why the name is familiar: Ruth has a mug with, “Cats of the National Trust,” on, including, “Bertie of Berrington Hall.”

Bell-box. When I first saw that, I was going nuts trying to recall what it was. I've never seen one in real life, but watch enough British TV...

It finally came to me. A little slow because I'd got my ends flipped and was expecting bell-pulls. But then again, why all these indicators for a Tea Room???

Ah yes. Barrington Hall.

Time to stock back up on Jaffa Cakes.

Well, we did visit Whitby Abbey. But it is an English Heritage property and there was an employee there whose sole job it was to upsell you into buying a membership.

There's one of those at every location. It's just pot luck as to whether it's their day off or at lunch when you arrive.

They're probably not employees, but volunteers.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Is this a tiny ad?
