Can a standalone WAR be installed in WAS 5.0?

Hello folks,
Can a standalone WAR be installed in WAS 5.0?
The WAR is not part of any EAR. Is it possible to install it? Should an EAR be installed for a WAR to be installed successfully.
I appreciate all inputs.

Yes. You can deploy a war file on WAS. You can do this by bringing up the Admin console. While deploying a war file you must specify the contextRoot. Which will be used as the address for the application
URL for the application = <default_host> + <context_root> + <URL_pattern>
You should modify the plugin-cfg.xml to include your application. Hope this is of some help.

Here it is:
URL for the application = default_host + context_root + URL_pattern.
I would suggest you to go thru the installed sample applications for a better idea.
